Land oysters

OK — this time it’s really an oyster. Right? Call me quick if it’s not, so I can dial Poison Control while my spinal cord still functions.

Oysters, I think. Found on dead hardwood at Picnic Point, Madison. Photo, W.

  1. My god, these are some thing like $20./lb. here at O’Brians market!

  2. Yes, of course it’s an oyster. The dead hardwood habitat (and the picture) make it easily identifiable. But surely you have tastier mushrooms in your local parks?

    • Peter dear, I’m still in the indiscriminate phase — I’m excited about everything I find. You should see the inedible sac and jelly fungi I bring home! I found some two-color boletes yesterday, but they were a little far gone. Now at least I have this handy new mushroom book to save me … 🙂
