Zoning the dream

Props to the Wisconsin State Journal for a lead story today that isn’t about Badgers or Packers (dear local newspaper: sports goes in the sports section). City of Madison’s looking at changing its zoning law to allow:

• community gardens in any zone
• market gardens in any zone, with approval
• greenhouses and indoor fish farms (e.g., see my previous post on Growing Power in Milwaukee) in certain zones with approval
• urban agriculture (farming, composting, greenhouses, classroom spaces and continuing education) with approval.

What I want to know is, how would vertical farms go over in this draft? That reminds me that I’ve been meaning to invite all you rich ecovisionaries to come build one in Madison.
